Number 11: When I started using the Internet

When I was little, we got the original AOL and just kind of rolled with what we had on our crappy now but super cool dial-up connection at the time. I definitely went in to a crap load of chat rooms that were way too mature for my age, considering the first thing people typed to the masses was "Hey Everyone A/S/L?" Which for newberts that means Age/Sex/Location which was always really funny to see everyone hop on answering that question. I'd just sit there and watch people lie about everything, it was quite interesting... this was of course until my parents found out about parental controls that had a kid internet that limited us to like one cartoon looking homepage.. There was no instant messenger, myspace, facebook, blogger, twitter, notable cell phones for the masses, people didn't even really have pagers until I hit middle school but the cell developed quickly and within that same amount of time the pager fad which was pretty much our AIM when I was a kid because you'd just sit up at night and text on ur pager all night, which is what I think gave LOLs and ROTFLMAO etc. their start. Anyway the internet kinda sucked... I mean compared to now... The only website I can really remember spending time on was Nickelodeon and making homepages and things even though no one ever came to see them haha it was still fun getting to write things and put pictures up even though I had no idea how to work it.. i think the thing was called 1-2-3 Homepage or something.. it was through whoever AOL worked with at the time but I don't know it looked like poop and the url's were always super super long so there was no way you could even tell anyone where they could find you unless you wrote it out, of course they always said You've Got Mail which was fun cuz that was the only way to talk to someone other than the chat rooms, this was all until my Aunt Sybil told me about this game called Slingo which was freakin awesome cuz you could play a game and talk to people at the same time, I got pretty good at it and would rush home from school just to play it haha lame I know but it was cool to have the internet when not a lot of people did. Anyway I'm just glad I kept with it and that it's not like that anymore because being able to talk to my friends now on iChat and so many other technologies is just freakin incredible. This was also before computers came with any type of CD burning function, no iTunes or anything either. I had to go out and buy a CD burner when they came out (I got it for Christmas one year) but that's another story hahaha
